Google does not acknowledge the error and is still working on a solution for a problem that affects thousands of users
The arrival of tools such as Apple Car or Android Auto have made life easier for millions of people, as they allow GPS to be used or music to be played easily while driving. As a direct consequence, more and more vehicles are compatible with these options. However, it seems that a bug in Android Auto has caused the phone to reset to its factory settings if connected wirelessly, unfortunately for owners of a smartphone with this operating system.
As Android Authority points out, phones restart automatically if Android Auto is used wirelessly, as this does not happen if a wired connection is used. Thus, the problem arose after the updates to Android Auto 13.4 and 13.5, given that this situation did not occur with previous versions. As a result, many Reddit users began to report multiple failures and, in the end, some of them pointed out that their phone had returned to factory settings after using Android Auto.
Which models are affected?
According to the original news item, this bug affects several phone models including the OnePlus 12 and the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, but they are not the only ones that have experienced the error. In fact, in the most serious cases, users have completely lost wireless connectivity after the update on January 27, 2025. Furthermore, there is also a variety of vehicles affected, as the problem affects different makes and models of cars such as the 2021 Audi Q5. As a result, some users have to manually restart their phone every time they try to reconnect Android Auto.
Although there has been no official statement on the matter yet, wired connections are still working properly in most cases. Google, for its part, has not acknowledged the problem or confirmed that it is working on an official solution. For many, upgrading to Android Auto version 13.7 could be a solution, but this does not completely solve most of the problems in all cases either. Therefore, it is a matter of patience until a patch arrives from Google.
