To have Android Auto on Chromecast, you need to download and install a local video player. Don’t search for it on the Google Play Store because you won’t find it: first you will have to download the AA Store, and here you have two options, from the GitHub repository or from the Telegram group.
Once you have the AA Store, you will see a list of unofficial apps for Android Auto: the app we are interested in is Local Video Player, so when you find it, tap “Install” and give permission to use the AA Store repository as well as install apps. The file is just 15 MB, so it can be done quickly.
Then just open Local Video Player for the first time to give him permission to use the photos and media files– this is a prerequisite for him to be able to broadcast them to the car’s screen. Once ready, it will be available for Android Auto.
It is popularly referred to as ” Chromecast” because it does the same thing, and the performance similar to older Google models (has nothing to do with independent ones that integrate Google TV).
All you have to do is go to the video you want to play and tap “Share“ (share), then select Watch on car to automatically transfer the content to the car screen so you don’t have to do anything else.
