No frills: this is what you should do if you have a sore throat, according to a pharmacist

At this time of year, it is not unusual for us all to be battling with sore throats, colds or fever. During the colder months, we become unwell and end up with an infection for weeks, which ends up affecting our social life and work. We are neither well enough to have a drink with our friends, nor strong enough to work normally.

Although in most cases colds are not serious problems, they are very contagious and annoying in our daily lives. This disease is easily spread through the air or through simple contact with contaminated surfaces. Because of this, we must be careful not to make the symptoms we already have worse, such as dressing warmer or avoiding cold food. Or at least that’s what we’ve always been told.

There are many beliefs that we have believed throughout our lives, and the truth is that many of them are not as effective as they seem. Neither drinking hot milk with honey will make us get better sooner nor is eating ice cream when we are ill so harmful. Pharmacist Fernández from TikTok has revealed what we should do when we have a sore throat, debunking all the myths that have been built up around this ailment.

Is it good to eat ice cream if I have a sore throat?

We have all heard at some time in our lives, especially when we are children, that under no circumstances can we eat ice cream if we have a cold. However, the TikTok pharmacist is clear: “If your throat is sore with inflammation, ice cream is the best solution”.

No ifs, no buts. Ice cream is the most beneficial food for our throat if we have a cold. The thing is, when our throat hurts it becomes inflamed, so the cold helps to reduce the pain we feel when swallowing, according to the expert.

Of course, it is best to avoid chocolate ice cream and ice cream with a lot of sugar.

It is best to choose varieties made with natural ingredients, such as fruit, as they include vitamins and antioxidants that help strengthen the immune system. The doctor advises avoiding those with large pieces or nuts, as these can cause pain when they pass through the throat, damaging the area and making the situation worse.
