Goodbye dirt and rust: the simple trick to clean silver bracelets and leave them gleaming

A famous Spanish ‘tiktoker’ has revealed the ultimate remedy for effectively removing dirt from silver bracelets in just two minutes.

In the world of social media, home remedies and cleaning tips go viral every day, and this time the star of the show is Yoli, a TikToker with over 1.4 million followers thanks to her practical tips and advice on keeping the home spotless. In one of her most recent videos, Yoli shared a simple trick for cleaning silver bracelets, leaving many of her followers amazed at how effective and quick the remedy is.

Silver, although a very beautiful material, tends to stain and lose its luster over time. Rust and dirt accumulate on jewelry, giving it a dull and neglected appearance. But, as Yoli explained, restoring the original shine of silver bracelets is easier than you might think. In her video, she showed that with just a few ingredients that everyone has at home, jewelry can be made to look like new.

“Look at the state of this silver bracelet,” says Yoli at the beginning of the video. “It couldn’t be any dirtier. Put it next to another one and, well, you can see the difference,” she explains. And it’s true, the difference between the dirty bracelet and the shiny one she puts next to it is obvious. But Yoli promises that in just two minutes she can make the old bracelet shine again.

The process explained by the famous ‘tiktoker’ is really simple and accessible to everyone. First, Yoli recommends using aluminum foil, a basic material that any household has. “We take silver paper and put it inside,” she says, referring to the bracelet to be cleaned.

Then she adds a teaspoon of baking soda, a well-known cleaning agent that is already used in many other home recipes, and the next step is to close the aluminum foil as if it were a “sack” and place it in boiling water for a minute and a half. “We’re going to leave it for a minute and a half,” Yoli repeats, emphasizing that timing is key in this trick so as not to damage the piece of silver.

When the bracelet is removed from the water, Yoli explains that the next step is to open the foil packet and, instead of using a brush or some other utensil, simply rub the piece with your hands. “There’s no need to clean it with a little brush, our own hands are enough,” she says. The idea is that the baking soda remaining in the packet acts as an exfoliant to remove any residual dirt and rust.

The last step is to rinse the bracelet under the tap to remove any remaining baking soda and then dry it thoroughly. The result, according to Yoli, is surprising. “Look how wonderful, it’s exactly like new, as if it were brand new. And it only took two minutes,” the TikToker explains enthusiastically, showing off the completely restored piece of jewelry. “This type of cleaning is the fastest way to clean silver,” she says.

Yoli’s trick is based on a simple chemical reaction. When sodium bicarbonate comes into contact with aluminum and hot water, it generates a process of reverse oxidation. This means that the rust residue that has accumulated on the silver is transferred to the aluminum, leaving the piece shiny again.
